Kurşun dökme is among the oldest cleansing practices still kept in Anatolian homes. Lead is melted over the flame and poured into a bowl of cold water held above the person — or, when they are far away, above their written name.
The sudden hiss and crackle is said to carry away what has gathered around a person. The shapes that harden in the water are then read: sharp, broken forms, smooth ones, holes and spirals.
The intention
A ritual for release and lightness — a moment of letting go, held in an old and very physical tradition.
